Hungarian businessman would buy Transcarpathia from Ukraine for gold

István Varga, a Hungarian businessman, would like to buy back Transcarpathia from Ukraine for the gold of the Börzsöny mountain. He believes that more than EUR 500 billion worth of gold is hidden in the hills in Northern Hungary. Thanks to that, he could settle Hungary’s state debts and buy back Transcarpathia, a Western region of Ukraine once belonging to the Kingdom of Hungary.

Transcarpathia was part of Hungary until the 1920 Trianon peace treaty. Afterwards, it was given to the newly-formed Czechoslovakia by the great powers. In 1938-39, it was reconquered by Hungarian troops, but in 1944, the Soviet Union occupied it and kept it as part of the Soviet Ukraine. After 1991, it remained a territory of Ukraine. In 2001, more than 150,000 Hungarians lived in Transcarpathia. However, because of the economic hardships and the war, many left. In the Hungarian community, there are still around 100,000 souls.

István Varga, a 77-year-old Hungarian businessman, thought about buying it back from Kyiv for good money. Despite his age, the businessman does not enjoy his retirement years. He still works 10 hours a day. And he wants to open a gold mine in the Börzsöny mountain in Northern Hungary, Bors wrote.

Previous research showed there was EUR 500 billion worth of gold dust in the mountain at 500 m depth. The businessman said he already acquired everything he wanted. Therefore, he would not like to expand his business empire from the investment.

Selling Transcarpathia for gold?

He does not want to buy a third in addition to his two cars. Furthermore, he does not want to buy a bigger house either. “I want to do for my beloved home country as much as possible”, he added. He does not even want to use manpower to extract the gold. He would like to use robots. Thus, he is in discussion with a Japanese company about making the needed machines. Furthermore, he would like to build a processing plant beneath.

Using the revenues of the mine, he would like to buy back Transcarpathia. He believes such a move would be beneficial for Ukraine and provide a kind of justice for Hungary. Furthermore, it would be peaceful.

Facts: in 1939 Hungary, under Horty’s dictatorial rule, took immediate advantage of the German invasion of Czechoslovakia and invaded Transcarpathia, at that time a Czechoslovak territory, and whose Hungarian population constituted a mere 10 % of the region. Following the annexation, about 27.000 non Hungarians were massacred, no guilt, no trials, pure ethnic cleansing. Consequently, some 75.000 ethnic Ukrainians fled to Soviet Union and approx. 60.000 of them later on ended up in gulags. And this without going into the even more tragic faith of the circa 100.000 Jews of Transcarpathia most of whom did not survive the Hungarian and later German occupations.

The above facts just to explain why even many “Hungarians” of Transcarpathia prefer to stay with Ukraine rather than their land beconing part of Hungary.
Before even thinking of something so idiotic as buying that land, ask those who live there if they would like to be bought.

Ukraine is not for sale!
If someone wants to acquire the land of another country then it should be discussed between hungary and Ukraine.
Using Ukraines current situation being taken over by a hostile Russia is a disrespectful and a low blow to Ukraine. TAKING BACK PART OF UKRAINE for hungary is just seizing the opportunity to pounce on an already war torn Ukraine is disrespectful and hostile. Why would Ukraine want to part with the area. Inhabitants being both Hungarian and Ukrainian, it just sounds as a smoke screen to take the pressure off the Hungarian and Russian ongoing friendship. Furthermore why would Ukraine would want to give up land to an already unfriendly Hungary. The last point is the fact that Ukraine is fighting to regain control of its territories occupied by Russian orcs, so why would Ukraine wants to sell part of their sovereign territory to a unfriendly country like hungary and the Orbán clan? I think Hungarian government is trying to seize the opportunity and also use questionable tactics just like Russia. Hungary is becoming a problem both for the EUROPEAN UNION and NATO and now exploiting a country in turmoil. I was born Hungarian but renounced my Hungarian citizenship and became Canadian.

There’s no true democracy in hungary left and it’s still sinking and needs Russia for a number of reasons and consistently opposed to almost anything that EU or NATO comes up with. Like blocking aid from EU to Ukraine for a single reason that Ukraine should play games and concede territory to Russia in order for peaceful negotiations with a lying Russian regime and its trigger happy leaders. There can be no peace until Russia has lost the war and withdraw its troops from ALL of Ukraine territories including Crimea. Hungary has no legitimate reason to bring up this subject at this dangerous point and to take part of Ukraine when Ukraine is fighting for its survival. Hungary is against all military help for Ukraine offered from the EU and NATO. Belarus and hungary is pretty much on the same side and trying to take advantage of the current situation.
Last but not least, the Hungarian government already clearly stated that the government of Ukraine is an opponent to Hungary and its survival with nothing to back this claim especially in turbulent times like we see now.
Hungary is a back stabber and opportunistic just like Russia and Belarus.

According to Mario, the history of Transcarpathia and Hungary began in 1939. Actually, it started a 1,000 years before that when Hungarians
arrived in the Carpathian Basin. Transcarpathia was part of Hungary for a 1,000 years until it was taken by force. Ukraine has only had it for about 79 years.

A. Horvath should know that in 1910 ( ten years before Trianon ) Hungarians made up less than 1/3 of the population of Transcarpathia. Majority was Ukrainian-Ruthenian.
And the history of Transcarpathia does not begin 1000 years ago either.

One cannot invade a nation not his. The Hungarians are the natives of that land, it was their nation.

In WWII Russia murdered 7-10 million Ukrainians.
In the last two years they murdered probably a half million and displaced 13 million.
Hungary in the meanwhile welcomed and fed and clothed a million or more.
Being landlocked, with no access to seaports that the other Euro nations have, Hungary has had no choice but to buy oil from those who can sell it.

As for the Jews, Hungary suffered the largest loss of its Jewish population in the Holocaust, 10% of ALL Holocaust victims, or 600,000.

AS FOR PAUL’s shameful abandonment of his nation, as a U.S. citizen who left Hungary almost seven decades ago, I begged, borrowed and groveled to get back my Hungarian citizenship that I had never surrendered and never will surrender.

Democracy in Hungary is imperfect. It is not a Jeffersonian democracy, for Hungary is a parliamentary, not constitutional republic.

AS FOR HORVATH: The Hungarians were not the first settlers of Hungary who are still here. The Jews were.
The Jews came on the heels of Roman armies, Not only were the Jews Rome’s best troops, but they handled the logistics, accounting, inventory, blade smithing, transport and supplies, for an army fighting in a faraway land from home.

The Romans left eventually as their empire collapsed, but many Jews stayed behind to marry the local women.
