PHOTOS: One of the most romantic, hidden Budapest churches renewed and opened
The Ják Chapel in the Castle of Vajdahunyad, a famous tourist spot in Budapest’s green heart, the City Park (Városliget) has been beautifully renewed. The sacred building and its surroundings are one of Budapest’s most romantic spots attracting both locals and tourists alike.
According to turizmus.com, a Hungarian tourism-focused news outlet, Péter Erdő, Hungary’s cardinal and the archbishop of the Esztergom-Budapest Archdiocese, blessed the renewed chapel as part of a Holy Mass celebration.
The temple was built for the occasion of the 1896 Millennium, the date when Hungary celebrated the 100th anniversary of the Conquest of the Carpathian Basin, during which the seven Hungarian tribes led by Árpád conquered the new land. Therefore, several iconic buildings of the Kingdom of Hungary, including the ancient Romanesque Basilica of Ják, were remade in a miniaturised version in Budapest.

The chapel is famous among the faithful and non-believers, especially among engaged couples, who seek to marry in a sacred and romantic place. In the last two decades, almost 1,000 Hungarian couples shared their vows in the chapel. The renovation that cost HUF 200 million (EUR 510,000) was funded by the Prime Minister’s Office.
