Take care: Accident-prone conditions in popular Budapest shopping mall
Opened in 2010, Corvin Plaza is one of Budapest’s most visited shopping centres. It is therefore a concern that security in the building is not the best. The mall is increasingly experiencing technical problems.
As Index reports, the Corvin Plaza was built on the most memorable site of the 1956 Revolution and Freedom Fight, as a continuation of the Corvin Square. The mall attracts so many shoppers that often, shops are full and there is an overwhelming amount of people and no unoccupied table to be found on the dining floor.
Because of intensive traffic, continuous maintenance is needed in the building. However, these needs are often not met. This has caused many inconveniences for customers in the past.
Technical problems on the rise in Corvin Plaza
Experience has shown that in recent years, there has been a succession of major and minor faults. Sometimes, these took several days to rectify. In some cases, an escalator is out of order, while in others, the entrance doors fail to operate. Last summer, the air conditioning on the dining floor was broken, Növekedés.hu writes.
Now, two escalators have been out of service for more than 10 days. As both are on the same level, people can only get to the ground floor from the first floor if they walk down the motionless escalators. However, the height of each stair is high, which is an accident hazard.
Lifts are not a viable option for so many people
Normally, it is not allowed to walk on them. However, if they were to be closed, the first and second floors would no longer be used. In such cases, the use of lifts would be a solution, but they have a low capacity and long waiting times even without queuing.
The operators have previously indicated that it is not entirely up to them, Növekedés.hu notes. They will do what they can, but the decision rests with the owner and the maintenance companies.
