PHOTOS: One of the best Hungarian Christmas Fairs opens soon – PROGRAMME GUIDE
Hungary hosts one of Europe and the world’s finest Christmas fairs. As noted in our previous article, Budapest’s Vörösmarty Square market ranks among the world’s top fifty Christmas markets. Meanwhile, Debrecen’s market has been honoured as one of the twenty best small Christmas markets in Europe. We now have the details of this year’s opening.
So, what can you purchase in Debrecen? “Carpets, textiles, handcrafted ceramics, wooden toys, gingerbread, medicinal herbs, teas, delicious sweets and stunning Christmas ornaments and decorations,” as mentioned on debreceniadvent.hu. There will be nearly 100 stalls and 30 wooden cabins offering gastronomic delights for all.
Of course, there will be numerous children’s programmes, such as playhouses and craft activities. Furthermore, on weekends, roller pianists, costumed cartoon characters, fairytale creatures, stilt walkers and verklis will amuse the crowds. Santa Claus will greet the children between the 3rd and 5th of December at the ‘Adventi Kuckó’ in the city. On the 5th of December, he will perform alongside the Kiskalász band on the Dósa Nádor Square stage.
Debrecziner Gourmet will present a gastronomy show with Christmas-inspired dishes, beverages and desserts.
Ice rink, DJ sets, charity run and a huge magnificent pine tree awaits you at the Debrecen Christmas Fair
On the 10th of December, the so-called Ronda Pulcsis Run (Ugly Hoodies Run) will take place, where you can run 5 km individually or together with your nearest and dearest, friends or even your pet.
This year, a grand living pine tree will grace the area in front of the church, coming from Józsa.
“The illuminations along the promenade, beloved classic and new installations like the sphere, deer, sleigh and light tree, along with an enormous living pine tree, will transport viewers away from their daily routines and get them into the Christmas spirit,” as described on the fair’s official website.
