For three weeks from tomorrow, 2 November, construction work will take place on Szent István körút at Nyugati Square and Jászai Mari Square in Budapest, the Budapest Transport Centre (BKK) reported.
On the section between the Margaret Bridge and Nyugati Square, a cycle lane will be protected by bollards in the direction of Nyugati Square. Meanwhile, on other sections, shared lanes will be created to facilitate the movement of buses and cyclists, Pénzcentrum wrote.
The developments
After the development, two lanes will still be available for motorists between Nyugati Square and Jászai Mari Square. In connection with the development, which is a winning project of the community budget, the parking lanes on the side leading to Nyugati Square will be closed from 2 November due to the construction of a cycle lane on Szent István körút.
The first phase of the work, expected to last until 12 November, will close the two inner lanes at Jászai Mari Square at the end of the tram platform towards Margaret Bridge, and the outer lane at Nyugati Square, turning left onto Váci Road.
During this period, the longitudinal pavement signs will be painted. At the same time. the installation of traffic lights will begin at Jászai Mari Square, Hollán Ernő Street and Szemere Street. The end of the tram platform on Jászai Mari Square towards Margaret Bridge will be rebuilt, and a new cycle crossing will be built next to the existing pedestrian crossing.
The entire construction is expected to be completed in three weeks. However, weather conditions may affect the start and completion of the work, BKK said in its statement.
