Would you buy the Lego version of Budapest’s Chain Bridge?
Lego enthusiasts are in for a treat as Hungary’s iconic Chain Bridge could soon find its way into the world of Lego. The fate of this exciting project rests in the hands of votes and the discerning eyes of Lego designers.
Lego as self-expression
At its core, Lego is a tool for self-expression and exploration rather than just a toy. The bricks’ interlocking design promotes hands-on building, which develops spatial awareness, problem-solving abilities, and the pure joy of realizing one’s ideas. Lego’s enormous selection of kits, which includes anything from fantasy worlds and space explorations to cityscapes and historical sites, demonstrates how versatile their products are. And finally, we might be able to recreate one of our iconic landmarks in the future.
The Széchenyi Chain Bridge on Lego Ideas
Unveiled on November 10th, the Lego design of the Széchenyi Chain Bridge has landed on the Lego Ideas idea store, as reported by Lelépő. Crafted by the talented @hello-zol, the design showcases intricate details and a touch of history. The bridge, a symbol of Budapest and Hungary, was originally constructed between 1839 and 1849. It bears the name of its initiator, István Széchenyi who is often referred to as the “greatest Hungarian”. It recently underwent renewal, celebrated with a free festival in August. Moreover, the model, created in Bricklink Studio 2.0, comprises an impressive 2,460 parts, including a miniature figure of István Széchenyi.
Votes are pouring in
To bring this creative vision to life, the proposal needs tens of thousands of votes. Fortunately, it’s off to a promising start, having secured the first thousand votes shortly after its debut. The current count stands at an impressive 3,232 votes. With six more months to reach the next milestone of 5,000 supporters and just a tantalizing step away from the coveted 10,000 votes, the project is gaining momentum. The designer, @hello-zol, shares the inspiration behind the project, saying, “I live in Budapest, and when I recently walked across the bridge, I thought of making my own Lego version of it. I hope you’ll like it.” Votes can be cast on the Lego Ideas platform, where supporters can contribute to making this Lego rendition a reality. Lego enthusiasts and fans alike are encouraged to cast their votes in support of the Széchenyi Chain Bridge Lego set.
Lego Ideas: a platform for fan creativity
Operating on the principle of turning fan ideas into reality, Lego Ideas provides a platform for enthusiasts to submit their creative sets on the Lego website. The company’s designers then select which designs become official Lego sets. The Széchenyi Chain Bridge project showcases the impact of community support in bringing landmarks to life as Lego sets. Enthusiasts can join this venture by casting votes, helping the Lego version of the Széchenyi Chain Bridge become a reality.
