Record high low temperatures recorded in Budapest on Christmas Day
The National Meteorological Service recorded 6.6 degrees Celsius lows in Budapest on 25 December, the warmest ever recorded that day.
The previous Budapest record was 6.5 C, recorded in 1950. The highest temperature also broke the record: in Budapest Újpest, the temperature climbed to 13.9 degrees Celsius, two tenths above the previous record.
One day before Christmas Eve, PécsMa reported that a beautiful snow layer had formed on the higher parts of the Mecsek Hills. On the first day of Christmas, however, there was no sign of it: the holiday brought spring-like weather. According to data from the National Meteorological Service (OMSZ), the thermometer in Kémes in Baranya, for example, showed 18 degrees on Monday. That is about 12 degrees above the maximum temperature usual for this time of year.
