Next 12 January will mark the 37th anniversary of the hugest snowfall in Hungary. 1987 was a special year for the whole country: the so-called “fairy-tale winter” was beautiful, but it sure made life difficult for everyone.
According to magyarorszagom.hu, anyone who lived through the big snowfall in 1987 is sure to remember this day.
What happened in winter 1987?
The whole country was in a state of total disaster on 12 January 1987. Thousands of people couldn’t get to work, students couldn’t go to school. There were even some word about someone who her prom that day and walked from home to school in a knee-length skirt. The snowfall is often remembered to this day by adults as “the fairy-tale winter”. Heavy snowfall accompanied by a strong windstorm paralysed transport in the country for days. Small villages and big cities were no exception.
