On 17 January, police officers boarded a Wizz Air flight from Larnaca to Budapest, Ellenszél reports. According to the news portal, flight attendants warned passengers to stay in their seats after landing.

Several police officers arrived on board and approached a man, who was escorted off the plane.

Only then could passengers begin getting off the plane. The airline also reacted to the incident, stating that one of the passengers was smoking in the aircraft’s bathroom despite repeated warnings from the crew.

The statement said that, in accordance with safety protocol, the police were notified. After landing, the offending passenger was escorted off the plane.

The airline has a zero tolerance policy in all cases of safety violations, Wizz Air stressed. They added that smoking is a general rule in air travel. Violations can result in a fine of up to EUR 3,000 and a ban from flying.
