Three of Budapest’s superb open-air ice skating rinks remain open until February
Here are three ice skating rinks from Budapest that will remain open in the following weeks and provide an excellent opportunity to be amazed by the lights and beauties of the Budapest winter.
Winters in Hungary have been mild lately, with rare snowfalls and temperatures above 0 degrees. This winter seems to be different. This week was the second time that most parts of Hungary were covered in a thick snow layer. Most Hungarians could celebrate a white Christmas in 2023.
Therefore, maintaining and operating ice skating rinks and halls does not seem to be that difficult compared to a warm winter. Probably that is why there are some mesmerising places welcoming guests even until late February. That means you will be able to ice skate for several weeks in an astonishing environment since Budapest is one of the most beautiful cities in the world.
Some ice rinks closed after the advent and Christmas season since they were only open during the Christmas fairs. That is what happened, for example, with the ice rinks of the downtown’s Vörösmarty Square and City Hall ice rink. However, Szeretlek Magyarország collected three open-air ice rinks that remained open and will welcome guests until the end of February.
1. City Park Ice Rink
That is Europe’s oldest and biggest open-air ice rink. Opened on 29 January 1870, on the artificial lake of Budapest’s City Park, close to the tourist hotspot Heroes’ Square, the City Park Ice Rink offers wonders for each visitor, regardless of their age or skating knowledge and experience.
There is only happiness, dance, laughing, music and joy. For example, an elderly duo became a Tiktok star after their spectacular ‘ice dancing’ there. You may check out the video in THIS article.
The City Park Ice Rink offers 12 thousand sqm of high-quality ice for you, music, education, bobbies for the little ones and a restaurant. You can find their official website HERE.
Adult tickets are HUF 3,000 (EUR 7.85) in off-peak hours and HUF 4,000 (EUR 10.5) in peak hours. However, there are several discounts for pensioners, children, families, and students. Moreover, you can also buy passes. HERE is everything you need to know. You may also rent skates and lockers. The ice rink will be open until the end of February.
2. Budapest Park
2024 saw the Budapest Park’s ice rink open for the third time. The ice rink is 2,000 square metres. There is a unique selection of drinks, but you can also have churros and some hot refreshments.
You can rent skates as well. The entrance ticket is HUF 2,500 (EUR 6.5) in the regular period (Monday to Thursday) and HUF 3,500 (EUR 9.1) in the popular period (Friday to Sunday). Students, teachers, pensioners, families, and locals can buy a ticket for a reduced price. HERE is everything you should know.
3. The panoramic Ice Park of Csepel
Budapest’s 21st district is easily reachable by HÉV from the Boráros Square, where you can travel by tram or bus. The ice park is unique since it has a beautifully decorated, 250-metre-long ice corridor. The rink is near the HÉV station of Szent Imre Square.
The rink is between trees and decorative lighting, and you can also learn skating and rent skates there. Its territory is above 2,000 sqm. The entrance ticket costs HUF 2,000 (EUR 5.2), so this is the least expensive one.
The Csepel Ice Park will remain open until 28 February.
