Hungary’s largest field of snowdrops awaits visitors again – photos, video
A two-and-a-half hectare field of snowdrops in the Alcsút Arboretum Nature Reserve attracts thousands of visitors every year.
Among the snowdrops that bloom in early spring, seven species of snowdrops, 24 varieties, can be seen in Hungary’s most original English park, the Alcsút Arboretum, writes Impress Magazine.
Snowdrops in Alcsút
The first snowdrop field was planted in the late 1800s by the gardeners of the Alcsútdobó estate, and then more and more varieties were added, resulting in a field of snowdrops covering more than two hectares.
The snowdrop has been protected since 2005, with a conservation value of 10,000 HUF and a fine for plucking a single stalk.
Only visible for a few weeks
Last year, the snowdrop celebrations started on the first days of February at the arboretum, but this year the spectacle only started on 17 February. The arboretum is open every day from 10:00-17:00 during the snowflower season, and the adult ticket costs 2400 HUF. More information can be found here.
