Important: Long weekends in Hungary in 2025 revealed
A ministerial decree has been published in the Hungarian Gazette (Magyar Közlöny), specifying when there will be long weekends in Hungary next year and when public holidays must be worked on Saturdays.
The regulation will apply to all employers and their employees who work standard working hours. The working arrangements around public holidays in 2025, differing from the regular calendar working arrangements, will be as follows:
- Saturday, 17 May 2025, is a working day; Friday, 2 May 2025, is a rest day;
- Saturday, 18 October 2025, working day Saturday, Friday, 24 October 2025, rest day Friday;
- Saturday 13 December 2025 working day, Wednesday 24 December 2025 rest day.
This implies that there will be a four-day long weekend in 2025 from 1st May to 23rd October.
Christmas will be a five-day long weekend because Christmas Eve will fall on Wednesday.
The decree on the working schedule around public holidays in 2025 will come into effect on 1st January and will naturally be valid for one year.
Therefore, there will be no rest day linked to 15th March, which will fall on a Saturday next year, or 20th August, which will be on a Wednesday.
Easter in Hungary starts on Good Friday and ends on Easter Monday, making it a long weekend every year.
1st November 2025, All Saints’ Day, will be on a Saturday.
