Machine gun fire scares Budapest to death: here is the explanation
On Wednesday evening, a series of alarming messages were posted on Facebook, saying that people in Budapest were hearing gunshots. There is no reason to panic, as a film is being shot.
Alarmed comments in Budapest
Concerned messages flooded Facebook on Wednesday night, followed by comments about how scary it was, Index reports. People were just about to go to bed when gunshots broke the silence of the night and woke up half of Budapest.
“Does anyone know what that machine gun-sounding thing is that we hear every ten minutes or so? (Tábor Hill)”,
one commenter asked.
“Have a nice(r) evening! Is this shooting or what?! Machine gun fire plus return fire? Bogdáni Road area. I can hear it from the 10th floor, but I can’t see it,”
another person wrote.
“Does anyone know what this machine gun shooting is in the 13th district?”
Comments like this flooded Facebook last night.
Don’t worry: a film is being shot
Index indicated in its article that the shooting was just part of filming taking place in the area.
The public’s attention was drawn to this: however, it seems that the campaign did not go very well. Many people missed the information, and several Budapest residents were alarmed.
“Our company, GM Films Ltd. would like to inform you that between 09.04.2024 and 14.04.2024, it will be filming action films at night on the K-bridge of Hajógyári Island and its immediate surroundings,” they wrote in the brochure, which you can check out HERE.
Later, the police also issued a statement titled Vaktöltény (blank cartridge), in which they reported that several districts had called the police with concerns about gunshots heard on Wednesday night.
“The police reassured everyone that a film shooting was taking place on the Hajógyári Island in District III; people were confused by the noise of an action scene,” they added.
