Hungarian artificial intelligence invention to revolutionise solar energy sector?
A Hungarian artificial intelligence (AI) expert, in collaboration with the European Space Agency, has developed a groundbreaking new system for use prior to the installation of solar parks. This innovation could significantly advance renewable energy production and the global effort to combat climate change. Here are the details of this extraordinary project.
Csaba Csongor Fekete, a Hungarian artificial intelligence specialist in data-driven business solutions and AI with over 20 years of experience, along with the Hungarian contractor companies Holisticrm and Geox, devised the OPT4SOL.AI system in partnership with the European Space Agency.
According to Index.hu, the Hungarian artificial intelligence project could be key in the fight against climate change by facilitating the transition to green energy in the future, as well as by making the utilisation of sustainable solar energy sources feasible.

OPT4SOL.AI integrates Geographic Information System (GIS) technology – a computer program for capturing, storing, analysing, and presenting data related to positions on the Earth’s surface – with AI capabilities. The Hungarian artificial intelligence system can analyse spatial data and images taken from space, and then use its artificial intelligence to calculate where the solar power plants would be most optimally located.
It creates the so-called “spatial profile” of a given location, integrating into its computations a myriad of different data points, to identify the most suitable locations for solar installations. On its website, the European Space Agency explains that the system simultaneously analyses 70 different data types, including:
“population data, industrial areas, land use, areas with below-average economic land evaluation values categorized, agricultural production types, ownership structure of land, drought index, land value, high and medium voltage electricity network, substations, existing solar installations, Natura 2000 areas, protected areas, applicable maps from the national territorial plan, excluded zones from solar development, Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 satellite images.”
While developers traditionally install solar parks in locations they know of, mainly taking legal and energy factors into account, OPT4SOL pre-screens, lists and ranks the most ideal locations from a production point of view, thus excluding areas in advance that are, for instance, subject to legal restrictions.
The system utilises data from Hungarian and European sources, with the added advantage of adaptability to other countries based on local regulations. Furthermore, developers benefit from the system’s ability to process both publicly available preset data and proprietary information, such as the developers’ own parameters for solar installations.
The automation of this complex analysis process through a highly adaptable AI system, as highlighted by Index.hu, has the potential to revolutionise solar panel installation practices.
