If you are visiting the capital of Hungary, there are countless places to pop into for lunch or dinner. But if the usual destinations are no longer a novelty, it is worth checking out some of the themed restaurants in Budapest for exciting and colourful ways to spend a holiday or just an afternoon out. Below, we have gathered some groovy places that are sure to break you out of your everyday routine.
The Magic
Junior sorcerers and witches in training, or really anyone who loves fantasy will enjoy the feeling of being plunged into another place at The Magic restaurant on Hajós Street, which teleports you straight to the wizarding world of Harry Potter.
Start the night with a Love Potion or some Liquid Luck and choose a magical main course such as Merlin’s Feast or the Witch Salad to pair it with. Finally, to top off the magical experience, you might have a Magic Ball or a Sweet Mandragora.
Sunny Diner
Can the USA come to you in themed restaurants in Budapest? You bet! For those looking for a taste of the American dream, Sunny Diner is the perfect choice. The eatery on Hűvösvölgyi Street is the country’s first American-Mexican à la carte restaurant. Open since 1997, the place offers everything from authentic milkshakes to burgers and quesadillas for hungry guests, in the classic diner atmosphere that most people might be familiar with from the movies.
Buffalo Steak House
Also transporting you to the United States of America, albeit showing a completely different face of the country, is the Wild West restaurant Buffalo Steak House, with its charming and unmistakably Hollywood-influenced Western feel, complete with cowboys and guns. The restaurant serves barbecue dishes, Mexican food, as well as special steaks from different nations–with exotic meats such as zebra or kangaroo–, and those who would rather go vegetarian need not worry either, as the restaurant offers a variety of meat-free dishes.
After all, as their website slogan says: “If the city atmosphere gives you stress, come to visit the Wild West!”
Sir Lancelot
If you are more interested in the life of knights and maidens, visit Sir Lancelot, a medieval-themed restaurant in Budapest. Located on Podmaniczky Street, this medieval restaurant takes guests back to a very exciting time in history, not only through its looks but also with its special dishes. Candlelight, wooden furniture, waiters in period costume, complete with hearty meals, and 100 kinds of Hungarian wine await weary knights at the heart of the capital.
Pirate Empire
The roaring sea, octopus arms, skull-shaped beer jugs: the Pirate Empire invites guests aboard a pirate ship, and after dinner, provides photo opportunities with pirate hats and guns provided by the restaurant. Located on Nagymező Street, inside the walls of the Pirate Empire, you will be out on wild waters while remaining right at the centre of the city.
Choose from burgers, such as the Black Pearl, or the vegetarian Peaceful Pirate Burger, or enjoy Black Beard’s Feast pizza, with a Cursed Gold Potion or some Kraken Blood off of the drinks menu.
Unicorn Bistro
Proudly declaring itself the first unicorn restaurant in Europe and Hungary, the Unicorn Bistro awaits those who want to immerse themselves in the unicorn lifestyle. Not only is the inside of the bistro covered nearly head to toe in pink and glittery objects, or decorated with flowers, the food comes in all colours of the rainbow, too. From green and blue burgers, and pink cream shakes, to colourful unicorn pancakes, or rainbow sweets.
This unicorn-themed restaurant in Budapest can be a unique date spot or a place for a casual dinner with friends. And for those who love pink, it is a must.
