These Michelin Key Hungarian hotels are in the global elite!
Since 2023, the Michelin Guide has rated hotels secretly and compiled their latest list of Michelin Key hotels. They recommend more than 5,000 hotels from more than 120 countries. There are multiple Hungarian hotels on that global top list.
25 Hungarian hotels in the global elite
The world-known Michelin Guide introduced a new category for acknowledging the high-quality service of the hotels last year: the Michelin Key promotion. Hotels that were on the list of the recommended hotels of the Michelin Guide before can receive this qualification. Furthermore, the Michelin Guide promotes places having outstanding architectural, service and characteristic offers compared to the market standard.
It is a considerable Hungarian success that following the promotion of four Hungarian hotels in the spring, 25 Hungarian hotels got a Michelin Key. That means 25 Hungarian hotels are at the world’s top, based on the world-known French ranking.
Michelin Guide does the qualification process of the hotels in secret, Lelépő wrote. Therefore, nobody knows whether their hotel will or will not appear on next year’s list.
Giving Michelin Keys to the best hotels worldwide is understandable since Michelin Guide would like to offer a complex travel experience for its followers, including restaurants and hotels.
Michelin Key ranking is done in secret
As we wrote in June, one of the new Hungarian hotels promoted with Michelin Key was the five-star luxury hotel Andrássy Kúria & Spa, located in the heart of Tokaj-Hegyalja in Tarcal. There were three more hotels getting a promotion in that round: the Platán Udvarház, the Avalon Resort & Spa, and the Tokaj Minaro. We hope the list will expand in the future with more places in Hungary, thanks to some ratings done secretly.
In 2023, 73 Hungarian restaurants had Michelin star(s) or Michelin recommendations. That is a considerable success in itself. According to Lelépő, the reason is the last few years’ gastronomic revolution. Hungary has two restaurants with two Michelin stars and seven with one star. Furthermore, there are seven Bib Gourmand and 57 recommended eateries in Hungary.
