PHOTOS: New luxury hotel opened in Budapest downtown
The Kimpton Bem Budapest is the first of its brand in the magnificent Hungarian capital. The luxury hotel faces Bem Square, one of the most illustrious and iconic places in Budapest, near the Danube. For example, Hungary’s foreign affairs ministry is in Bem Square.
Office building and hotel in Budapest’s heart
As we wrote, the hotel was scheduled to open its doors in early summer, with preparations, such as staff selection and training.
According to the official Facebook page of Market Építő Ltd, a Hungarian construction company, expectations were high before the grand opening of Budapest’s newest luxury hotel. The five-star hotel is in Budapest’s 2nd district, in the former place of the Radetzky Barracks.
The project consists of two parts. The office segment, the BEM Center Office, was completed last year, and companies already rented its offices. Meanwhile, the new five-star luxury hotel was opened to the public this summer.
New hotel creation of Dutch star architecture
The new hotel is the first unit of the IHG Hotels & Resorts’ luxury and lifestyle branch. The contractor was the Market Építő Ltd. The hotel has 127 rooms. On the 5th floor, there are the presidential Cosmos and Observatory Suites with an 82 sqm private rooftop garden.
World-known Dutch architect Marcel Wanders designed the interior. They created unique interior spaces with audacious forms, material use and colours. Interestingly, the Dutch star architect’s office closed after the project, so this hotel was his last work.
The new building mixes classical and contemporary features. There are traditional Hungarian motives like tulips, poppies and the legendary Wonder Stag.
The new luxury hotel mixes elegance with urban energies and is just minutes away from Budapest’s main sights. It gives a glimpse into the cultural encounter of the East and the West.
