Irish melodies and unity: Paddy and the Rats’ vibrant concert at Budapest Park

On 9 August, Paddy and the Rats returned to the stage at Budapest Park to once again deliver the unparalleled energy and fun that only they can create. Following the band’s anniversary concert last year, this year’s performance was highly anticipated and, indeed, memorable for all who attended.

The concert kicked off with the classic hit “Bastards Back Home,” which immediately set the tone for the evening. After this energetic start, the band played a series of well-known tracks including “Freedom,” “One Last Ale,” “The Captain’s Dead,” “Matadora,” and “Drunken Sailor.” A particularly memorable moment occurred when the audience routinely squatted down for the initial bars of “Freedom,” only to jump up in unison during the chorus.

The audience also enjoyed the customary “pogo duel” during “The Captain’s Dead.” This interactive element has become a hallmark of the band, and the enthusiasm of the crowd was palpable.

In addition to their upbeat Irish pub-style and pirate-themed songs, the band performed slower, more melancholic pieces such as “Castaway.” These songs provided a moment for emotional recharge before the pace quickened again.

The band never forgets their former bandmate, Bernát Babicsek. A touching moment came when Bernie’s former student played his beloved teacher’s accordion in his memory. This gesture highlighted the importance of friendship and unity within the band.
