Breaking – Forest fire near Budapest Airport
The forest between Gyömrői Street and Csévéző Street caught fire in Budapest’s 18th district. The National Directorate General for Disaster Management said they stopped the fire from spreading.
According to index.hu, the flame consumed at least one hectare. Several units of the National Directorate General for Disaster Management (Katasztrófavédelem) were extinguishing the fire.
A deputy mayor of the district, László Petrovai, said the fire broke out in the protection forest of Csévéző Street. Petrovai said the undergrowth was in flames on three hectares. The deputy mayor added that volunteers from multiple districts rushed there to assist their professional colleagues.
A third-degree heat alert and fire ban is currently in effect in Hungary.
Ádám Kiss, a deputy spokesperson of the Disaster Management, said the undergrowth was aflame on 1.5 hectares in the 18th district, and firefighters baulked the spread of the flames.
