End of an era: Iconic Budapest bistro Bálna closes for good
After nearly a decade of serving as a beloved gathering spot on the banks of the Danube, the iconic Bálna Terasz is set to close its doors for good. According to an announcement shared on their official Facebook page, the popular venue will serve customers for the last time on 28 October.
Bálna Terasz closes after 10 years
The iconic place first opened close to 10 years ago as a friendly initiative, and over the years, it blossomed into one of Budapest’s most well-known social and cultural hubs, the Facebook post reads. The venue has hosted a wide variety of unforgettable events, from culinary experiences to cultural celebrations, making it a favourite for both locals and tourists.
In their heartfelt farewell, the operators expressed their gratitude to all who contributed to the success of Bálna Terasz, noting how proud they were of the role it played in the city’s vibrant social life. They promised that this wasn’t the end for them entirely, teasing a return in the near future with a fresh concept and a new location.
Not their own decision
Although the exact reasons behind the closure remain unclear, a recent post acknowledged that the decision was not in their hands, and the team expressed disappointment over the outcome. Despite the closure, Bálna Terasz’s legacy as a key venue for cultural and gastronomic events will be fondly remembered.
For now, fans will have one last chance to visit the beloved riverside bistro before it closes on 28 October.
