VISUALS: Iconic ferry terminals at Lake Balaton will be beautifully renewed

Change language:
The BORD Architectural Studio plans to renew and rebuild the ferry terminals of Szántód and Tihany, the destination of Lake Balaton’s most popular ferry route connecting the Northern and the Southern banks of “the Hungarian Sea”. The new ferry terminal in Szántód will look similar to the original one, the hyperbolic paraboloid reinforced concrete shell structure built in the 1960s. Find some visuals below!
Iconic ferry terminals of Lake Balaton
According to the BORD Architectural Studio, the ferry terminal reconstruction will be one of their most exciting projects in 2025. They would restore the passenger waiting area, “originally built in the 1960s in Szántód, featuring a hyperbolic paraboloid reinforced concrete shell structure.” They promise to make that unique structure an iconic element of the Szántód port.
BAHART’s ferry approaching the Szántód port:

“Our concept highlights one of the area’s most stunning natural assets: the reed beds. A new elevated walkway will provide breathtaking views of the water, reeds, and the entire port, leading visitors out to the pier. The necessary service functions are housed in a new L-shaped building, closely connected to the promenade. Its simple, linear form creates a subtle boundary between the port and the reed beds. Our first renderings capture the ferry port in the atmosphere of autumn”, they wrote in a Facebook post.
