Chinese BYD signs cooperation agreement with vocational training, higher education institutions

BYD Auto Hungary, the local unit of Chinese EV maker BYD, which is building a plant in Szeged (SE Hungary), signed a cooperation agreement with six vocational training centres and the University of Szeged on Tuesday. Veronika Varga-Bajusz, the state secretary for higher education and vocational training, said the agreement outlined steps paving the way for young people to build their careers with BYD.

Gábor Gan, the director of BYD’s executive office in Hungary, said the cooperation established a knowledge centre in Szeged and built up production capacity. He added that BYD will offer students internships and professional training. Gan emphasized that BYD is committed to continuous development and intends to make the latest industry knowledge available to as many people as possible. They believe that Szeged and its region can play a prominent role in Hungary’s development, he added.

László Salgó, the head of the county government office, said that when it is completed, BYD’s plant in Szeged will employ around 10,000 people. BYD is committed to employing Hungarian workers at its factory in Szeged. To this end, negotiations have begun between the company, KIM, SZTE and regional vocational training centers, resulting in the agreement, he announced.
