PM Orbán’s political director warns Europe against ‘two fatal mistakes’ in Ukraine conflict

The most important political issue of the year ahead is to make sure Europeans avoid making two “silly mistakes”, Balázs Orbán, the prime minister’s political director, said late on Friday.
Speaking at a public forum in Csopak, in western Hungary, Orbán said it was critical to bring an end to the war between Russia and Ukraine. He called for government decisions that guaranteed Hungary’s peace, security and an opportunity for economic growth, and had an impact beyond April 2026.
He said that with the United States stepping back from mediating in the conflict, Europe must not use the funds meant for the continent to finance Ukraine. “There isn’t enough money to integrate Ukraine into the European community, to turn our competitiveness around, strengthen our defence and also kick-start the European economy,” the political director said.
He said that another potential mistake on Europe’s part “that would be tantamount to suicide” would be wanting to fill the role of the US and continuing the war, arguing that this would “eat up all the resources at our disposal”.

This war of Putin’s is creating an economic timebomb for the Russian economy and the Russian people. In a war of economic strength between the EU and Russia it is Russia which is far weaker. Russia has gone to a war economy diverting industry from civilian to military production. Inflation is growing, businesses are slowly being choked out of existence with 21% interest rates and the government will have used up all of its’ reserve savings by around the end of this year. When the war ends there will be half a million unemployed former soldiers on the streets of Russia and the government will be near bankruptcy funding extravagant military pensions and the costs of care to hundreds of thousands of disabled soldiers. This will make Russia a much smaller threat to Europe. Ukraine is taking on all of the human burden of weakening Russia for which we should all be thankful for and it is our moral responsibility to provide all resources necessary for their defence because the rest of Europe is next in line if the Russians are not stopped in Ukraine. Balazs Orban’s “fatal misake” was made when he opened up his mouth about not resisting Russia in 1956. These people have been bought by Russia.
Balazs Orban, they guy who in a theoretical new war with Russia, would ask to Hungarians to surrender. Wondering how he still dare to speak about Ukraine with this mindset he has
