Századvég: Majority of Hungarians reject ‘Brussels plan’ to ban Russian energy
The majority of Hungarians reject the Brussels plan to ban Russian energy, according to a Századvég Foundation survey published on its website on Monday.
Fully 70 percent of Hungarians reject the plan and 55 percent say it would ruin Hungary’s economy, Századvég said.
The think-tank said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said in a May 6 speech that in addition to arming Ukraine and fast-tracking its EU accession, a prime objective was to introduce a total ban on Russian energy imports.
It added that the ban would mean Hungarian households would have to pay market prices for energy instead of enjoying cheaper bills thanks to the government price-cap scheme, resulting in households paying 3.5 times their current utility outgoings.
This would carry “serious economic and social consequences”, the think-tank said.

Too bad. If you are going to be in the EU your country will abide by EU regulations and if they say no Russian gas you won’t use Russian gas. Information keeps coming out in this publication that Hungary is paying more for Russian gas than the rest of the EU is paying for gas from other sources. The only reason why Hungary is importing Russian gas is that it has sold itself to Putin as an ally and chooses to help finance Putin’s war against Ukraine. It’s disgusting.
