Border Control Officers Taken Into Custody On Bribe Charges

(MTI) – Ten border police officers were taken into custody and heard on suspicion of taking bribes from lorry drivers entering Hungary at a border crossing with Romania, the Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office said on Friday.

The suspects working at the Gyula crossing station are accused of having accepted bribes for 5 euros, 10 Romanian leis or food and beverage items for neglecting customs check. The suspects refused to make a statement, the office said.

Two of the suspects were apprehended by the counter-terrorism force TEK on Thursday. A court in Szeged will on Friday decide on the pre-trial detention of the suspects.
