FM Szijjártó in New York: Hungary to reject all pro-war moves at UN

“Several armed conflicts around the world have been brought closer to resolution in recent months. Unfortunately, the war closest to us has been an exception, posing an even greater danger to us than before,” Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó said on Monday morning.
Szijjártó said on Facebook that the United Nations General Assembly would normally bring hope for peace, “but seeing the escalation of events and pro-war positions, we have no illusions”.

“At the same time, this does not mean that we should not make every effort to ensure that the UN General Assembly brings us closer to peace, he added.
“Therefore, over the next week, we will support all initiatives that bring us closer to peace and we will reject anything that poses a risk of escalation,” Szijjártó said.
“We will start in New York at dawn,” he added.

It is Purim’s Russia that launched its war in Ukraine and it is Russia that refuses a ceasefire or even face to face negotiations with Ukraine’s leadership. What he consistently does however is push to leave Ukraine defenceless against Russia and to leave front-line European states such as Poland and the Baltics defenceless against Russian attack.
