Another tragedy: 46-year-old Hungarian police officer dies after being hit by train

A tragic incident occurred in Cegléd, Hungary, on Tuesday, where a 46-year-old police officer was fatally struck by a train. According to MÁVINFORM, the man stepped in front of the Napfény InterCity, which had departed Budapest’s Nyugati railway station at 11:50 and was heading to Szeged.

Police officer confirmed as victim

Initial reports indicated that the individual was likely acting with suicidal intent. Later, several outlets confirmed that the victim was a police officer from Cegléd. The Pest County Police Headquarters stated that the Cegléd Police Department is conducting an administrative investigation into the circumstances of the case, but declined to share further details.

Recent similar tragedies

This is the latest in a series of tragic incidents involving members of law enforcement and public service. Just a few days earlier, Zsolt Szabó, the police chief of Hódmezővásárhely, took his own life. Less than two weeks ago, a mother of two who worked at the National Tax and Customs Administration (NAV) also died by suicide, using her service weapon at the institution’s Pécs office.
