Hungary–Armenia: Changes to transport in Budapest on Saturday

Public transport and traffic arrangements will change on Saturday afternoon in the area around Puskás Aréna due to the Hungary–Armenia international football match, the Budapest Transport Centre (BKK) announced on Thursday via MTI.

Traffic changes in Budapest, around the stadium

The match will kick off at 6 PM on Saturday, but numerous traffic restrictions and closures will already be in effect from 3 PM around the stadium, the statement said.

Due to limited parking options, BKK is asking fans to use public transport to reach the match. Travellers are advised to take advantage of the more frequent services of fixed-rail transport — metro lines M2 and M4, tram line 1 — as well as the MOL Bubi public bike-sharing system.

How to approach the stadium

Entry to the stadium will be possible from Dózsa György Road and Stefánia Road. The stadium is within walking distance not only from the Puskás Ferenc Stadion metro station but also from Keleti Railway Station via Verseny Street, with a similar walking time.

Before and after the match, metro lines M2 and M4 and tram line 1 will operate more frequently than usual. All buses running along Thököly Road will stop at both the Reiner Frigyes Park and Thököly út/Stefánia út stops.

Budapest Transport Centre’s statement

According to BKK, between 3 PM and 9 PM, Dózsa György Road will be closed between Thököly Road and Kerepesi Road; Ifjúság Road will be closed between Dózsa György Road and Stefánia Road; Verseny Street will be closed in its entirety, along with Istvánmezei Street. After the match, between approximately 7:40 p.m. and 9 p.m., Stefánia Road will also be closed between Hungária Boulevard and Thököly Road.

Between 3 PM and 9 PM, bus 30 will operate in both directions along the Thököly Road–Dózsa György Road route, skipping the stop on Verseny Street. Trolleybuses 75 and 77 will only serve stops at the Puskás Ferenc Stadion terminus on Hungária Boulevard before Kerepesi Road, or the 901 bus stop towards Óbuda.

Between 7:40 PM and 9 PM, due to the closure of Stefánia Road, trolleybus 75 will operate on a diverted route via Thököly Road and Hungária Boulevard, skipping the Egressy út/Stefánia út and Szobránc köz stops. Trolleybus 77 will also run on Hungária Boulevard between Egressy Road and Puskás Ferenc Stadion, without stopping at Egressy út/Stefánia út and Szobránc köz.

BKK also warned that further temporary traffic restrictions may be introduced after the match.
