Ian Gillan of Deep Purple is coming to Budapest

Singer Ian Gillan will perform in Hungary, budapestarena.hu reports. The legendary musician of Deep Purple will be giving a concert on November 8 in the László Papp Budapest Sports Arena entitled Gillan sings Deep Purple.

The singer will perform the songs of Deep Purple, accompanied by the musicians of the Don Airey Band, and the 50-member Art Anzix Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Stephen Bentley-Klein. The supporting band will be the Papa Le Gál, in which Grace Gillan, Ian Gillan’s daughter also plays.

Ian Gillan was born in 1945 in Hounslow, England. In his early years, he was inspired by Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly and Little Richard. At 20, he met bassist Roger Glover, and joined Episode Six as the lead singer. His real breakthrough came when he joined Deep Purple in 1969. His iconic voice greatly contributed to the band’s success. They released four albums in consecutive years: Deep Purple in Rock, Fireball, Machine Head, and Who Do We Think We Are, and are still active today.

Gillan became successful as a solo performer as well. In 1970, he sang the title role in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Jesus Christ Superstar, and he has twice performed the aria Nessun Dorma from Turandot with Luciano Pavarotti. Last year, the singer toured 48 countries, and he is currently working on a new album.
