Hungarian winner at the International Nature Film Festival
The Kunság – The Secret Life of the Hungarian Puszta by Szabolcs Mosonyi won the grand prize at the 2nd International Nature Film Festival in Gödöllő, szeretlekmagyarorszag.hu reports. The award ceremony was held in the Riding Hall of the Gödöllő Royal Palace on Saturday.
According to 24.hu, The Kunság – The Secret Life of the Hungarian Puszta showcases the wildlife of the Kunság, a lesser-known region in the Great Plain of Hungary. The film focuses on the acclimatization of a family of golden jackals. For a long time, this species was believed to be extinct, but they reappeared a couple years ago, ready to reclaim their place in the food chain. Many other species of the region are also shown in the film, such as the bustard, the biggest bird species in Central Europe, many ducks, a family of rabbits, an otter, as well as the hatching of the mayflies, the phenomenon known as “the blooming of the Tisza”.
The film was made over the course of 3 years, out of which the shooting itself took one and a half years. The film’s producer and scriptwriter was Erika Bagladi, and the music was composed by Attila ‘Merkaba’ Mátyás.
The Kunság also won in its category at the Hungarian Film Week in March. Szabolcs Mosonyi is a director and cinematographer whose award-winning nature documentaries include Wild Hungary – A Water Wonderland, and Szigetköz – Inland Delta of the River Danube.
