The US wants to tear the European Union apart, with Hungary involved

A recently unveiled US national security strategy drafted under Donald Trump has sparked significant controversy across Europe, after reports emerged that an expanded, non-public version of the document outlines plans to weaken the European Union by strengthening ties with nationalist governments — including Hungary’s.

Will Hungary have a special role?

The publicly released 33-page strategy, published last Thursday, already signalled an adversarial tone towards America’s European partners. It accuses EU governments of lacking confidence in dealing with Russia, disregarding democratic norms and suppressing political opposition.

The document frames Europe as facing a “civilisational decline”, driven by migration and by “transnational organisations” such as the EU, which the text claims undermine national sovereignty.

However, according to the US defence policy outlet Defence One, a longer version of the strategy circulated internally prior to publication goes much further. This extended draft not only takes a harsher line on Brussels but reportedly sets out a clear objective: to encourage the fragmentation of the European Union, writes Telex.

Targeted partnerships to undermine the European Union’s unity

The leaked version identifies Austria, Hungary, Italy and Poland as countries with which Washington should work “more closely… with the goal of detaching them from the European Union”. The document allegedly stresses that the US should support parties, intellectuals, cultural figures and movements advocating national sovereignty and the preservation — or restoration — of a “traditional European way of life”.

According to 24.hu, while the public text avoids naming specific parties, The New York Times noted that its references align strongly with Europe’s nationalist and anti-migration movements. These include the UK’s Reform UK party and Germany’s far-right AfD — the latter having benefited from the personal involvement of Elon Musk during its campaign at a time when he maintained close ties with Trump.

US Vice President J.D. Vance also fuelled tensions earlier this year when he used the Munich Security Conference to lecture EU governments on free speech, criticising European efforts to regulate hate speech.

Moscow reacts favourably, Orbán praises strategic shift

The Kremlin welcomed the new American strategy with striking enthusiasm. Dmitry Peskov, spokesperson for President Vladimir Putin, said the document “corresponds with our own views”, underlining how the Trump administration’s rhetoric is increasingly aligned with Russian narratives about European weakness and disunity.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán also reacted positively. Speaking at an event hosted by the Széll Kálmán Foundation, he described the Trump doctrine as a precise assessment of what he sees as Europe’s “civilisational decline”. Orbán has long promoted a sovereigntist vision for the EU and has positioned Hungary as a leading voice of the European right.

A new geopolitical paradigm?

If confirmed, the leaked strategy would represent a dramatic departure from decades of US policy centred on supporting European integration as a cornerstone of transatlantic stability. Instead, the extended draft appears to signal a geopolitical reorientation: urging NATO’s European members to move towards military self-reliance while America cultivates relationships with ideologically aligned governments to reshape the continent’s political landscape.

  1. Well this is why Orban worked so hard to promote Donald Trump. Orban wants to tear Europe apart because Orban wants Russia to dominate Europe. Fidesz gets paid to do this. Look forward to Russian occupation if you didn’t have enough of it the first time. Thank God I live in North America while the fools in Hungary burn down the house.

    • “This is why Orban worked so hard to promote Donald Trump…’

Yes, of course, Dear Larry – with the full weight of The Western Elite against him, Orban Viktor has enough sense to identify friendly elements to Hungary and help them attain power.

Orban is fighting a fascinating battle, and he is a very very good general.

    • “Thank God I live in North America while the fools in Hungary burn down the house.”

Thank you for being grateful that you live in my country, Dear Larry – but, the reality is is that the United States is now a failed nation.

Every single aspect of our society is a failure – unlike Hungary, which, though economically degraded, is still racially and culturally intact.

You, Sir live in Yankeeland – and, I sincerely hope, that you get your independence from us, in The South, so that you can live in the happy Left-wing land of Homosexuals, Muslims, and psychotropic pilled vapers, while we repair our badly damaged traditional world, down here.

The fools you regard as regard as Fidesz, and Fidesz supporters, would be a vast improvement over our Democrats and Republicans – those two parties so profoundly corrupt and anti-American I cannot begin to list all the ways.

  2. “The US wants to tear the European Union apart, with Hungary involved…’

As I have numerous times stated : President Trump has decided to regime-change Bruxelles and reform a new EU centered around Hungary and the Orban model.

China and Russia agree with this.

I will weep no tears for Bruxelles.

    • The question here is whether the EU is able to help Europeans improve their standard of living while living in a stable and safe place. If they can do that then EU might survive.
But as it currently stands EU is bringing war and poverty to Europe. Many major cities in Europe have soaring crime rates and rape crimes are off the scale. The EU is obsessed with control and thus is incapable of innovation. Europe on every single economic measure is falling behind Asia and America.
I do not see how it can get better if EU is not radically changed!

      • “The question here is whether the EU is able to help Europeans improve their standard of living while living in a stable and safe place. If they can do that then EU might survive…’

        I respectfully disagree, Dear Bruce.

        This is only one question.

Other questions of importance are whether or not the EU will stop trying to destroy European nations through demographic displacement; whether or not the EU will stop promoting sexual degeneracy as a curriculum for schoolchildren; whether or not the EU is going to continue to interfere in National elections, all the while claiming that Putin is the sole actor in this sort of activity.

Of course, the answer to all these questions, including yours, is no.

That said, all of this is moot, as the United States, Russia, China, and, yes, Hungary have decided to break up the EU, as it is currently constituted.

A new/olde Europe is soon to rise.

    • So much for non-interventionalism – or hypocrisy, depending on ones point of view.

This whole “ending-the-war-in-24-hours” not going so well, is it?

  3. EUrogarbage needs no U.S. machinations to be no more. It will implode soon enough all on its own.

Germany’s per capita G.D.P. is lower than West Virginia’s and tanking by the day. Europe produces nothing, keeps importing people (and I use that term loosely) who are nothing but a giant burden, taxes will inexorably go up, everything is over-regulated, freedoms are being extinguished one by one daily, all the elites want is war and control of the peasant masses.

The E.S.C.C. was a great idea and it functioned very well for a while. But then, as is so often the case, the project got hijacked by megalomaniacs and the whole thing is on its way down the can. The sole question is: Will it be a peaceful divorce a la Czechoslovakia, or will it be explosive as it was in Yugoslavia…

    • Be careful what you wish for. Europe has not had a great track record when it comes to peace, before we all joined together in the European Union and its predecessors.

Also – do consider when you sign up for “might is right” – consider that Mr. Orbán is a mouse that roars. When the rights, protections and mutual assurances fall away … We are just a country of 9 million with a relatively low GDP and and export- oriented economy, dependent on energy imports. A small fish in a very scary pond.

    • “For any wondering about Trump’s ties to Putin here is some reading material. Be it Trump or Orban they both work the same – they can be bought by Russian money.’

Yes, we understand, Dear Larry, that the whole world who does not agree with you is working for ‘Putin’.

Amazing how Russia can afford to pay the many hundreds of millions of us, in The West alone!

Apparently their economy is stronger than we thought!

    • I don’t know why Larry, like all Leftists, is obsessed with ” ties to Putin”!
Having friendly, and stable economic relationships with all major powers surely is one of governments top priorities? Orban is the only leader in Europe with good relations with Trump, Xi and Putin.
Yet Larry lives in a world where ge gets to tell us who we should and should not be friends with. That is classic authoritarianism!

      • “I don’t know why Larry, like all Leftists, is obsessed with ” ties to Putin”!

Because, Dear Bruce, there has been a very concerted campaign to defame Vladimir Putin for 20 years in the West.

Those who do NOT have good connections to Russia, the majority of Westerners, eventually succumb to an endless campaign of half-truths and entire fictions about a person who leads a country they know next to nothing about, and, if they do know something, the information is often tragically out of date.

Of course, there are those who, like perhaps yourself, possess a strong immunity to propaganda.

Today’s Left is the most mentally controlled Americans I have ever seen, and if you are not controlled like them, they truly hate you.

I say that as someone raised as a Leftist in a Leftist community – though, that was decades ago.

Today’s Left does not much resemble yesterday’s Left, and that is a trouble for all countries, because having 35-40 of your citizens being totally intolerant totalitarians, who see themselves as ‘Democrats’ is very difficult to harmonize.

        Merry Xmas!

        • Lets see. Putin has been in power since 1999, centralizing power in the presidency, limited political competition and state control over the media. Add to that a system of loyalists, a repressive security apparatus and an assertive foreign policy aimed at restoring Russia’s Soviet era status …

Where do we sign up? Aspirational – just the type of regime you should want to cozy up to.

Potential “sweetener” – Russia is notoriously corrupt, affecting economy, politics, and public services. Some people may appreciate their attitude to bribery. To name a few political examples – Austrias Freedom Party (FPÖ), Frances National Rally, Germanys AfD and Die Linke, UKs Reform Party …

        • No one is a fan of Putin.

Putin’s behavior is enough in the last two-three decades.!

Wake up and read what he did in Georgia, Armenia, Syria, Ukraine………….

          • Speak for yourself , I am a strong supporter. You need to stop believing the propaganda being spewed by the media.

  4. Assisting with the complete total break up of the E.U. would be the best thing Donnie Boy ever does as President. Other than that Trump should go crawl under a rock and disappear. The E.U. is a slow motion train wreck that is coming off the track, the sooner the better.

  5. Derrick- change of leadership is what is needed. Europe is being destroyed from with in and that is a major concern to the US and the EU leaders are most reponsible. They have done nothing to end the killing , but to keep it going, and obsessed with Putin. They take no responsibility for anything. The US spent trillionsto end the USSR and free eastern europe with little help finacial from Europe. Sorry kids Putin has done more to stabilize russia than anyone- the russian people have never had it so good and he has their support. You act like the left n the US pushing Russia Russia for years spending millions to destroy Trump and his family. I knew little about the EU when i moved here but it became clear there are few real leaders but arrogant pricks- Brexit should have been a wakeup call when the largest member wanted no part of it. The elites n UK were against it and are ahead of the EU in destroying the UK. For a week now this media gas pushed some big disagreement with trump and Orban and have had a orgasm to make something of it. Orban is a very respected leaders in the US. The EU has gone nuts – its time to move all the troops out of germany to poland and hungary. You have made enemys out russia and now you think pissing with US is a good
idea.- that leaves you the CCP good luck.
