Would you teach in Hungary for EUR 1,830 – 2,200? Payrise announced

Following a 32.2 percent rise in 2024 and a 21.2 percent increase in 2025, teachers’ and kindergarten teachers’ pay will rise by another 10 percent, Bence Rétvári, state secretary of the interior ministry, said on Facebook on Sunday.
Payrise announced
Over five years, teachers’ salaries have more than doubled, Rétvári added. “Finally, teachers receive a salary that is worthy of the teaching profession, and this is a predictable wage increase, since teachers’ wages will increase every year until 2031 by the same amount as the average salary of graduate employees,” he said, adding that the average teacher salary in Hungary will as a result exceed 900,000 forints (HUF 2,340).
The wage increase is mostly, 88 percent, implemented from domestic budget sources, and to a smaller extent from European Union sources.
The increasing popularity of the teaching career is clear from data showing that a record high number of teacher candidates were admitted to universities this year, Rétvári added.
