Police scramble after drone spotted near Budapest Airport – video, photo

Proceedings have been launched against a man who illegally flew a drone near Vecsés, close to Budapest Airport.
Drone spotted at 3,000 metres
According to the statement, the man unlawfully launched his drone from the roof of an industrial site, with the device climbing to an altitude of 3,000 metres on several occasions. Its operator also breached multiple additional rules governing airspace use and unmanned aerial vehicles, Hungarian police said on Tuesday.
When questioned by officers, the Budapest resident admitted he was unaware of the regulations, said he had been flying the drone for leisure, and acknowledged the offence.

Endangering traffic at Budapest Airport serious crime
As Liszt Ferenc International Airport lies in the immediate vicinity, the drone posed a danger to arriving and departing commercial aircraft, the statement said.
Proceedings have been launched over what were described as serious violations. The Monori Police Station is investigating the incident under criminal procedure, the BRFK’s Eighth District Police Station under regulatory offence rules, while the Aviation Authority has opened administrative enforcement proceedings, it added.
Airport operations were not disrupted.
We previously reported that Budapest Airport broke records for passenger numbers and cargo volumes last year.
