Szoboszlai’s stunning strike against City voted BBC’s February goal of the month.
Viewers of BBC’s Match of the Day have crowned Dominik Szoboszlai’s thunderbolt against Manchester City as the Premier League’s finest strike of February, the Hungarian News Agency wrote.
Hungary’s national team captain unleashed the beauty from fully 27 yards out via a free-kick in the 25th-round clash on 8 February, rifling it past helpless Italian keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. The shot, perfectly placed, curled inside the two-man wall before kissing the left post and bulging the net—the stopper powerless to react.
It arrived in the 74th minute to put Liverpool ahead, yet the Reds couldn’t hold on: City mounted a thrilling late comeback, and the Hungarian midfielder saw red to cap a chaotic finish.
Szoboszlai claimed 35 per cent of the votes for the honour—his second such accolade this season. Back on 31 August, he’d notched a similarly exquisite free-kick stunner against title rivals Arsenal, which fans also voted the month’s best.
