Will March bow out with snow? Rain, gale-force winds and even snowfall expected next week in Hungary

Sunny spells and mild temperatures of around 15°C are forecast at the start of the week, but a sharp change is on the way. By midweek, a cold front accompanied by strong, gusty winds will arrive, bringing a higher chance of precipitation across Hungary. Rain is expected in many areas, while in Transdanubia, sleet and even snow may fall. By the weekend, daytime highs are set to drop to between 6 and 12°C, according to the latest forecast by HungaroMet.

Monday: Cloudy with sunny intervals

Cloudy conditions will persist on Monday, with occasional sunny spells, more likely during the morning hours. Isolated showers may occur before noon, with a chance of scattered showers and even thunderstorms later in the day. Easterly winds will generally be light, though gusts may pick up around showers. Daytime highs are expected to range between 13 and 17°C.

Tuesday: Bright but breezy

On Tuesday, sunshine is likely alongside high and cumulus clouds, although a few showers may still develop. Winds turning northerly may become brisk, with occasional strong gusts. Overnight lows will range from 1 to 7°C, dropping to around freezing in sheltered, clearer areas. Afternoon temperatures will reach between 14 and 18°C.

Wednesday: Sunshine before rain arrives

Wednesday will bring plenty of sunshine during the day, but cloud cover will increase from the west later on. By evening, rain and showers may reach western regions. Winds shifting to southerly and south-westerly will be lively, with some strong gusts. Temperatures will range from -2 to +6°C at dawn and rise to 15–19°C in the afternoon.

Thursday: Turning wet and windy

Cloud will thicken from the west on Thursday, although eastern areas may still see several hours of sunshine. Rain and showers are likely in many places, with thunderstorms possible east of the Danube. In western Hungary, sleet and snow may also occur, with significant precipitation expected in some areas. Southerly winds will strengthen in the east, while in Transdanubia, winds turning northerly may become stormy. Lows will be between 2 and 8°C, while highs will range from 12 to 19°C in the east and just 6 to 11°C in the west.

Friday: Overcast with widespread rain

Friday will be mostly overcast, with rain and showers in many areas. In western regions, sleet and snow may also fall. Winds turning north-westerly and northerly will be strong in many places, with gale-force gusts particularly in western Transdanubia. Morning temperatures will be between 1 and 7°C, with daytime highs reaching 3–10°C in the west and 11–15°C in the east.
