Tisza government ‘would serve foreign interests’, Orbán cabinet says

Change language:

A recently leaked voice recording “proves that the Tisza Party would serve the interests of Brussels and Kyiv if they came to power,” the parliamentary state secretary of the Prime Minister’s cabinet office told the Truth Hour podcast on Monday.

Commenting on an article on the mandiner.hu website alleging that a Hungarian journalist was cooperating with foreign intelligence services and helped them to intercept data on Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó’s phone calls, Balázs Hidvéghi said the report “has made it clear that Tisza has channels to the international operation against the patriotic government and Prime Minister Viktor Orbán and shows what it would be like if Hungary was governed along foreign interests.”

He called Szabolcs Panyi, the journalist named in the report, a “pro-Ukrainian journalist playing for another team” and said he could access “important, sensitive information” through his ties to Tisza foreign minister candidate Anita Orbán if Tisza came to power.

“The recording also shows the stakes of the election in April, and the unprecedented, rough methods surfacing in the Hungarian campaign. The election campaign is being observed by foreign forces who also interfere with it,” Hidvéghi said.

Hidvéghi said that under the leadership of Orbán and his party Fidesz, Hungary “has stood for characteristic, sovereign, independent and successful politics, which received serious attention in Europe and the world. This alternative — migrant-free, pro-peace and anti-war politics — is becoming attractive to an increasing number of western European voters, leading to a surge of anti-war, patriotic political forces that speak the language of the people…” he said.

He said that should a patriotic government be formed in Hungary again, it would be “unpleasant for the pro-Ukraine and pro-war Brussels elite … what’s more, it would have global consequences.”

Commenting on reports in the Washington Post on Russian intelligence agencies planning a “fake assassination attempt” against Orbán, Hidvéghi said this showed that “the largest players are taking part in the Hungarian campaign by spreading fake news.”

He said the Hungarian government had the task to “stand up against external pressure and stick to its earlier policies prioritising Hungarian interests.”

“Since they can’t break Viktor Orbán … the Brussels elite is trusting in replacing him so things become easier with [Tisza leader] Péter Magyar at the helm; that’s why they support [Tisza] with agents churning out fake news and with secret service methods,” he said.

Meanwhile, he said Ukraine was putting Hungary under unprecedented pressure by “closing the Druzhba pipeline as a means of political blackmail, transporting gold convoys through Hungary and threatening … Orbán’s life.”

“Therefore, the government has decided to push back the deadline on the National Petition,” he said, adding that more than 1.5 million people had already filled it out, and asking those who haven’t to do so and “voice their opinion on the war, the financing of Ukraine and utility prices.”

  1. Hungary already has a government (Fidesz) that serves foreign interests (Russia). Anyone not realizing that is completely blind. To open your eyes just walk to Parliament and see what is no longer there – the 1956 memorial and the Nagy Imre memorial.
