Qatar Airways resumes flights to Budapest from the Middle East

Change language:

A new chapter is beginning in Budapest’s air travel market: the Qatar Airways Budapest–Doha connection is becoming available again after months of suspension. Here is what passengers can expect for the summer season.

Popular route returns

Good news has arrived for travellers planning trips to the Middle East, Asia or even further destinations: from mid-June, the Qatar Airways Budapest route will once again be available. The Doha-based airline is gradually expanding its international network, which in the summer schedule will connect more than 150 destinations.

This could be particularly important for Hungarian passengers, as Doha is one of the world’s leading transit hubs, offering fast onward connections to destinations such as Thailand, Japan, Bali, Australia and the Maldives.

Daily schedule not returning – for now

Although many were expecting daily flights, the service will restart with a more limited schedule during the summer period. From 17 June until mid-September, flights between Budapest and Doha will operate four times a week.

According to current plans, direct services will run on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. The flights will be operated by Airbus A320 aircraft, which offer a smaller capacity than the wide-body aircraft previously used on the route. This could also mean seats may sell out more quickly on popular travel dates for Qatar Airways Budapest services.

Champions League final brings larger aircraft

There is, however, one period when a major boost is coming to Budapest. Around the UEFA Champions League final, from 28 May to 1 June, flights will operate on five consecutive days between Doha and Budapest.

Even more notably, Airbus A350 aircraft are scheduled for these dates, meaning larger long-haul jets will arrive in the Hungarian capital. This not only provides more seats, but is also exciting news for aviation enthusiasts, who do not often see this aircraft type in Budapest. The special period is expected to increase interest in Qatar Airways Budapest flights even further.

Important message for passengers

The airline is asking passengers to check their bookings regularly, as the timetable may still change in the coming months. International aviation operations can continue to be affected by external factors, including security or regulatory developments.

Passengers will also welcome the flexible rebooking policy. For tickets issued for certain travel periods, journeys can be changed free of charge, while refunds are also available, according to AIRportal.

What does this mean for Budapest?

The return of the Qatar Airways Budapest connection strengthens the Hungarian capital’s international accessibility, supports tourism and creates more opportunities for business travellers. It is also an important signal for the local market: Budapest remains an attractive destination for global airlines.

The big question for the coming months is whether four weekly flights will be enough to meet summer demand – or whether further expansion could soon follow.
