Getting to Budapest Airport just got easier: 100E buses to adjust to flight traffic!

Travelling between the city centre and Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (Budapest Airport) is set to become smoother and more predictable, as Budapest Transport Centre introduces a new data-driven system to optimise the operation of the popular airport bus.

The development focuses on the 100E Airport Bus, which connects the city centre directly with the airport and is widely used by tourists and expats.

Buses will respond to real-time flight data

Air travel is often affected by delays and schedule changes, which can result in large numbers of passengers arriving at the airport within a short period. To address this, BKK has implemented a system that analyses real-time flight information and forecasts passenger flows.

If the system detects that several flights are due to arrive close together, additional buses can be deployed to the 100E route. This allows transport planners to respond quickly and reduce overcrowding, improving comfort for passengers.

The system provides forecasts 90 to 120 minutes in advance, giving dispatchers sufficient time to make operational decisions and adjust service frequency where needed.

Tested and now fully rolled out

The solution was tested in a pilot phase starting in March 2026. Following positive results over several weeks, BKK has now decided to introduce the system permanently from early April.

According to the transport authority, integrating flight data with public transport scheduling enables quicker and more accurate responses to sudden spikes in demand.

More reliable connection to Budapest Airport

The upgrade is expected to make the airport bus service more reliable, particularly during peak travel periods. For passengers, this could mean shorter waiting times, fewer queues and a more comfortable journey overall.

BKK says the project is part of a broader effort to introduce data-driven improvements across Budapest’s public transport network.

Tickets for the 100E airport bus are available via the BudapestGO, from ticket machines, customer service points — including several at the airport — and BKK ticket offices.
