Magyar government to release communist-era agent files

Change language:
Hungarian Prime Minister-elect Péter Magyar confirmed plans on Thursday to unveil “communist-era domestic intelligence” files.
“The incoming TISZA government will open communist-era domestic intelligence files,” Magyar wrote on US social media platform X.
Magyar added that Tisza’s lawmakers would not take offices in the House of Representatives building, which he described as “the former headquarters of the secret police and the Hungarian Socialist Workers’ Party during that period.”
Balint Ruff, the incoming head of the Prime Minister’s Office, said Wednesday that disclosure of the agent files would be among his “initial priorities.”
The Tisza party won against Viktor Orbán in the April 12 parliamentary elections, ending Orbán’s 16-year rule, the Turkish Anadolu News Agency wrote.
Magyar has said he hopes to be sworn in May 9 or 10, depending on the president’s decision on when parliament meets.
