Hungarian motorway flooded with milk: 25,000 litres spill after lorry overturns!

Change language:
A lorry transporting milk overturned on Saturday afternoon on the Budapest-bound side of the M6 motorway, near Himeshรกza, between kilometre markers 180 and 181.
Emergency services were quickly dispatched to the scene, including professional firefighters from nearby towns, working under the direction of the regional disaster management authority.
The accident resulted in approximately 25,000 litres of milk spilling onto the motorway, covering large sections of the asphalt, BAMA reported.
Major clean-up operation required
In addition to the milk, a small amount of fuel also leaked onto the road, complicating the clean-up effort.
Firefighters faced a challenging task removing the slippery mixture from the motorway surface, prompting a full closure of the affected section while operations were underway.
Traffic was only able to resume once the clean-up had been completed and the road deemed safe.
No injuries reported
Despite the scale of the accident, no personal injuries were reported. Authorities have not yet confirmed the exact cause of the incident.
Interesting: not the first such incident
The accident echoes a similar case on the M6 motorway in April 2025, when another milk tanker overturned in Tolna County, spilling more than 20,000 litres into a roadside ditch, Blikk reported back then.
In that case, police said the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel before crashing into a guardrail. The driver escaped unharmed, largely thanks to wearing a seatbelt properly.
Authorities at the time urged motorists not to drive while fatigued and to take regular breaks during long journeys.
