Land Fund To Call Tenders For 40,000 Hectares Of Land In 2014
Budapest, April 28 (MTI) – The National Land Management Fund (NFA) is ready to call tenders for 40,000 hectares of land leases this year, business daily Napi Gazdasag said today.
Plans include broadening the range of forms of cultivation specified in the tenders, the paper said, citing a statement from the Rural Development Ministry.
The tender, to be called under the “Land for farmers” programme, will be repeated if unsuccessful or invalid. Land so far used under short-term leases will also be included in the scheme, as well as such items as fish ponds.
The state plans to purchase land in order to expand the scheme, and if it suspects speculation, it will act on its pre-emption rights and call tenders for land acquired in such way so that local farmers can gain access, the paper said.
In the first round of the government’s land lease scheme held in late 2012, around 65,000 hectares of state-owned land was offered.
