Debrecen’s New Football Stadium Opened On Thursday – Photo Gallery
The Nagyerdei Stadion was finally finished after one year of construction. Now “Loki” has a stadium suitable for Champions and Europe League matches, reports origo.hu.
DVSC’s former stadium was in a terrible conditions, it was unsuited for international matches, so Loki had to play these in Budapest or Nyíregyháza. The brand new stadium has the second highest UEFA rating, which enables DVSC to play Champions League and Europe League group stage matches at its own ground. The national team will play here as well, the first event will be against Denmark on May 22nd.
According to origo.hu, the interest in the opening ceremony was huge, many people attended. Even those who otherwise do not really care about football bought tickets. Most of he praised the stadium, some were really happy to see that the visitor’s place is roofed. Everyone had the opinion that the city and the team needed this facility.
The opening ceremony started at half past eight. The stadium was first sanctified by Gusztáv Bölcskei reformed bishop. He was followed by Mayor Lajos Kósa, who said his thanks to all the people who helped to build this stadium. He then reminded everyone that he promised that DVSC will play against Barcelona in Nagyerdei Stadion. The next speaker was Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, after him came the concerts.
