Fidesz Calls For More European Efforts To Fight Unemployment
Budapest, May 3 (MTI) – The new management of the European Union will have to focus on resolving “real problems” such as unemployment, without “any further useless bureaucratic fuss”, Robert Zsigo, spokesman of the ruling Fidesz party, told a press conference on Saturday.
Zsigo told a news conference that the question of whether Europe could “do better” in its fight against unemployment was a burning issue. Rather than spend their time with “futile debates” MEPs should focus instead on promoting the economy and creating jobs, and “get the EU’s leadership to deal with those problems”.
Zsigo, referring to fresh Eurostat figures, indicating that unemployment has not changed from February to March, said that though the number of the unemployed was down on an annual basis, “the EU cannot find the way” out of the unemployment crisis.
By contrast, Zsigo said that Hungary’s rate of unemployment was 7.9 percent in February, down by 3.3 percent from the same month in 2013, and insisted that “the number of those in employment has not been this high for the past 22 years”. He added that further increasing employment and fighting joblessness would be a top priority for Hungary’s next government, too.
