Economy minister, Budapest mayor discuss natl bus industry strategy
Budapest (MTI) – Economy Minister Mihály Varga met Budapest Mayor István Tarlós on Monday to discuss the government’s national bus industry strategy as well as questions concerning the capital’s public transport services, the economy ministry told MTI.
The bus production strategy approved by the government earlier this month will support the industry with 30 billion-35 billion forints (EUR 95.9m-111.9m) over the next three years.
The government’s goal is to build on Hungary’s six big bus makers, expanding capacity and raising headcount in the sector, the ministry noted. The government support will need to be coupled with credit.
The government aims to boost bus production in Hungary to an annual 1,000-1,200 units in three years.
Budapest’s municipal council postponed a decision in May to buy Polish buses in light of the government’s decision to implement the national bus production strategy.
The Polish Solaris buses would have been used for replacement service along Budapest’s number three metro line which will soon undergo a much needed renovation.
