Storm Uproots Trees, Damages Power Lines Across Country
Budapest, May 15 (MTI) – Trees uprooted by gale-force winds, roads blocked by fallen branches, and disruptions caused by broken power lines have been reported from all over Hungary.
The winds blew at 100km/h in several parts of the country, while the strongest, 141km/h, was measured in western Hungary’s Bakony mountains.
Disaster management staff and locals built sand bag barriers to protect some 500 properties along the southern banks of the Balaton from rising waves on the lake. Flood protection operations have also started along the Raba river in western Hungary.
Delays in railway services should be expected in the western Balaton region and on the Miskolc-Budapest line. Power outages have been reported from five different counties.
A storm alert has been issued for the whole country.
