Hungarian Director Mundruczo’s New Title To Premiere In Cannes

(MTI) – Hungarian director Kornel Mundruczo’s new title, White God, will have its world premiere at the Cannes Film Festival on Saturday.
Mundruczo’s sentimental adventure film tells the story of 13-year-old Lili and her dog.

“It’s no secret that after the films I’ve made thus far, I am turning towards genre experiments. The first of these is White God, inspired mostly by preposterous and increasingly rancorous present-day social relations,” the director said in the film’s press release.

The film will be screened in the Un Certain Regard section of the competition.

Mundruczo returned to Cannes for the fourth time, where he competed with his opera film Johanna in 2005, with family drama Delta in 2008 and with the drama Tender Son – The Frankenstein Project in 2010.

Another Hungarian title, Petra Szocs’s The Execution, is in competition for the festival’s Palme d’Or in the short film category. It is about a brother and sister who repeatedly perform the execution of the Ceausescu couple.

The short film Province about a driver by Hungarian young director Gyorgy Mor Karpati will be shown in Cinefondation, the festival’s section dedicated to student films.
