Wage rises in health care expected to slow emigration

Budapest, August 3 (MTI) – Wage hikes in Hungary’s health-care sector are expected to slow down the emigration of doctors and other staff, the daily Magyar Idők said on Wednesday.

Quoting the latest data by the government body responsible for training and keeping records on health care (ENKK), in the first half of the year 419 doctors, 259 ancillary staff, 108 dentists and 23 pharmacists requested documentation needed for employment abroad.

The rate of emigration in the sector has slowed down in the past few years, according to the paper. It added that staff outflows from the country are likely to narrow further when large pay hikes are implemented from the autumn.
