Bernd Storck thanks Király and Juhász for their contributions
Firstly Roland Juhász and now one of Euro 2016’s biggest characters Gábor Király have retired from international duty with Hungary. Naturally they consulted with their national team coach Bernd Storck before making their final decisions, the German manager following Király’s announcement with this tribute:
“Gábor Király announced his retirement and naturally informed me of this too. I’d like to thank him for everything he has done for the national team and naturally he deserves the most heartfelt congratulations for his career in the national team. He is a great sportsman and person, a member of our squad who showed his importance during his 107 times in the national-team jersey and who took Lothar Matthaus’ Euro record as the oldest player.
Similarly, Roland Juhász deserves thanks and congratulations for everything he has brought to the team. He helped very much with the integration of the youngsters into the team, even on those occasions when in certain cases they became a rival for his place. He wasn’t at the Euros with us as a tourist either but received his opportunity and played well during this continental tournament.
After the first World Cup qualifier against Andorra we plan a home friendly match at which we’d like to say goodbye to the retiring players in suitable circumstances and at the same time thank them for all they have done for the national team. It’s not easy to find an opponent at this stage but we’re working on it. As soon as we’re successful in this search, we will announce with whom we will play”.
