Hungarian foreign minister discusses MOL-INA conflict with Croatian economy minister

Budapest, August 26 (MTI) – Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó met Croatian Economy Minister Tomislav Panenic on the sidelines of the Croatia Forum in Dubrovnik to discuss, among others, the troubled relations between oil firms MOL and INA, the foreign ministry said in a statement on Friday.

Szijjártó reiterated at the meeting that Hungary’s interest lies in bilateral cooperation instead of a heated dispute. But in order for the two countries to be able to cooperate, Croatia must not hinder MOL’s rational, logical business decisions in connection with INA, Szijjártó was quoted as saying.

Croatia accuses MOL chairman-chief executive Zsolt Hernádi of having bribed the former Croatian Prime Minister Ivo Sanader with 10 million euros to obtain a majority stake in Croatia’s INA.

The ministry said Panenic reiterated the Croatian government’s commitment to building the LNG gas terminal.

Hungary expects Croatia to enable reverse gas flows between the two countries as soon as possible in line with its European and bilateral commitments, Szijjártó said.
