National Bus Procurement Committee holds inaugural meeting
Budapest, August 26 (MTI) – Hungary’s National Bus Procurement Committee, a body established to coordinate purchases by public transport companies with the aim of supporting local industry, has held its first meeting, the economy ministry said on Friday.
The government aims to renew public transport companies’ ageing fleets with Hungarian-made buses, Economy Minister Mihály Varga, who serves as the committee’s chairman, said at the meeting. The goal is to reduce the average age of buses in these fleets from 14 years to ten by 2020, he said. Domestic production of buses contributes to the country’s economic growth and creates new jobs, the minister added.
The meeting also discussed the possibility of procuring Hungarian-made buses for replacement services for Budapest’s metro line 3 while it is being renovated.
